MARRA-WANGGAN DANCERS

The Marra-Wanggan Dancers are an all women’s dance group from the Yuin Nation. The group was formed in 2024 by Ashweeni Mason & Emma Stewart. 

Marra-Wanggan means Mermaid in the Dhurga language. The group consists of 15 young ladies & women, dedicated to reviving traditional song, dance & language, while creating new songs & dances to honour old stories. The women sing in 3 traditional languages, Dhurga, Djiringanj & Dharawal, covering all regions in Yuin Country.

Marra-Wanggan Dancers are known for their one of a kind wearable art pieces, made from bird feathers, shells, tree barks, grasses, nuts.

Marra-Wanggan focuses on building strong cultural identities within our Wanggans (Young Women) while introducing them to the ways of their old people.
