LUKE HYATT

Luke Hyatt is a proud Wotjobuluk , Gunai-Kurnai, Minang man who works at Birrigai Outdoor School as an indigenous ranger. With years of experience in cultural burning, land management and cultural heritage management, Luke is passionate about sharing his knowledge and connection to the land with others. He takes particular pride in teaching and inspiring the next generation, helping young people build a deeper understanding and respect for culture, land, and community. 

Luke grew up on Ngunnawal land and has studied in Canberra (Conservation and Land Management) and at La Trobe university in Victoria (Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management). Through his studies, Luke has bolstered his passion for both cultural preservation and utilising cultural practices - and he applies this knowledge with caring for country. 

From crafting tools and instruments to traditional burning practices, Luke continues to advocate for the sharing of knowledge with young people as a means to impact meaningful cultural change. Luke continues to work with school and community groups to broaden understanding and knowledge of indigenous history, inspiring involvement from youth in caring for country and connecting with culture.
