WALLABINDI

Wallabindi is a Noongar, Yamatji and Burmese woman hailing from the shores of Boorloo, Western Australia. She is a proud Mum of two, a singer-songwriter, visual artist, an educator and a TEDx Canberra speaker. She has called Ngunnawal Country home for the past 20 years.

A constantly evolving force on the Canberra music and arts scene, her rich soulful vocals have weaved throughout many genres and bands - both in Australia and the UK - for over 20 years. She has supported and performed alongside many iconic Australian artists including Casey Donovan, Busby Marou, Bumpy, Icehouse, Dan Sultan and Coloured Stone.

Wallabindi released her debut EP ‘Wallabindi Dreaming’, which won the MusicACT Independent Debut of 2023. This original music acknowledges and honours the many Stolen Generations in her own family and moves to explore these past experiences of our shared history through her own eyes and heart.

Wallabindi along with her band -  co-writer Richard Gorter (guitar), John Coates (bass) and Jonathan Jones (percussion) warmly invite you in to their debut Giiyong performance to share a powerful collection of songs infused with history, culture, family and reclamation - all lovingly woven together by truth and strength.

YARN CIRCLE & SINGALONG WITH WALLABINDI > Come and join in a yarn and sing with Wallabindi and Richard Gorter - check Program for details. It will be a warm, welcoming session of truth telling and some yarns around reconciliation. Interwoven through it all, you will learn and sing one of their original songs, Be Brave Make Change.
