ALISON SIMPSON

ARTIST, DANCER, EDUCATOR

Alison Simpson is from the Galari (Kalari) people of the Wiradyuri nation from Central NSW as well as Yidha Yidha & Birapa Birapa from south-west NSW and is culturally connected to many other places. Her sacred beings (or totems) include the Maliyan (wedge tail eagle), the Dhandhaang (fresh water catfish), the Wambuwuny (grey kangaroo) and the Gugaa (goanna).

Alison has over 24 years’ experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities.

She has had the privilege of living and working in a number of regional communities throughout NSW and spent 16 years working in Aboriginal health (3 years at an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation and 13 years in the public health sector).

Alison is one of the Cultural Producers of Giiyong Festival and a valuable and important member of our team. She is also a highly accomplished Artist - see her market stall at the Festival. Alison is also the Cultural Advisor and co-CEO of Twofold Aboriginal Corporation.

At Giiyong Festival in 2025 whilst keeping an eye on the operation of the whole event, Alison will also be cooking up a storm on the campfire with The Black Olive - Chef Mark Olive - bringing her family’s special Johnny Cake recipe to life.
